Present Simple Tense คือ ประโยคที่พูดถึงการกระทำหรือเหตุการณ์ในปัจจุบัน เช่น การงานอาชีพ การแนะนำตัว เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นเป็นปกติวิสัย เป็นความจริงทั่วๆไป ตัวอย่างเช่น
My name is Sombat. I am a teacher.
Don gets up at 6 o’ clock in the morning.โครงสร้างประโยค : Subject + Verb 1
การเติม s ที่กริยาเมื่อประธานเป็นเอกพจน์มีหลักเกณฑ์ดังนี้
1. กริยาที่ลงท้ายด้วย s, ss, sh, ch, o และ x ให้เติม e ก่อนแล้วจึงเติม s เช่น
pass = passes
brush = brushes
2. กริยาที่ลงท้ายด้วย y และหน้า y เป็นพยัญชนะ ให้เปลี่ยน y เป็น ie แล้วจึงเติม s เช่น
cry = cries
carry = carries
ข้อยกเว้น : ถ้าหน้า y เป็นสระ ไม่ต้องเปลี่ยน y เป็น ie ให้เติม s ได้เลย เช่น
play = plays
destroy = destroys
คำที่บ่งบอกว่าเป็น Present Simple Tense ได้แก่
